Do you want to enjoy a view of the whole of Taipei, but are reluctant to go up to the Taipei 101 Observation deck for fear of it being a tourist trap? Good news! You can experience the same amazing views (without the crowds) for a fraction of the cost, all while enjoying a coffee and some cake.
Located on 35/F of the Taipei 101, there is a Starbucks that has fantastic views of the city and Elephant Mountain. Now while we would never usually promote a Starbucks as must see or secret location, we recommend it because:
- the views in this one are expansive
- it is a reservations only Starbucks (not many people know about it)
- it is also the highest Starbucks in the world – which we think is kind of cool.
How do I make a reservation?
You will need to make a reservation at least 1 day before, by calling this number +886 2 8101 0701. If you don’t speak Mandarin, we suggest that you ask your hotel staff to call and make the reservation. Make sure you have a reservation before you turn up, as you will not be allowed up if you don’t have one.
There is a minimum spend of 250TWD per person (~$8USD) which all goes towards your choice of food and/or drink. You can find many of the usual Starbucks menu items, with a few additional items such as squid ink roll.
Where the Starbucks with the best view of Taipei?
The Starbucks is located in the Taipei 101 office buildings at 7 Xin Yi Road Sec 5.
Finding the location is a little tricky, so make sure you leave plenty of time before your reservation. You need to be in the line at least 5 mins before your reservation time, or they will cancel your booking. Also note, they have a dress code, so don’t wear any thongs (flip/flops) or shorts.

What happens next?
A Starbucks representative will come down to meet you, mark your name off, give you a number and escort you up the lift to the Starbucks 35/F. We are unsure if the number you are given refers to the order in which bookings were made, or when you arrived at the Taipei 101. So we suggest you are early in both instances so you can get the best seat in the house. Numbers are called chronologically for you to pick your seat.
The best seats are obviously near the windows. But don’t stress if you don’t get these seats straight away. Each session in Starbucks is 90 mins and we think it is rare people stay the full 90 mins. So just wait until someone leaves and then you can sit back, and take in the best view of Taipei!
Opening times: 7:30am – 8pm (weekdays), 9am-7:30pm (Sat, Sun). Note the last available session is 90 mins before closing time.
